Youmacon 2026 partner hotels sell out fast, but Downtown Detroit has dozens of lodging options within walking or public transportation distance of Huntington Place. The Detroit People Mover and QLine streetcar are both free, so staying farther from the venue does not mean a long trek to get there. Below are lodging alternatives, transit routes, Airbnb tips, and parking info for Halloween weekend.
Spirits & Shadows is closing in on Detroit. Halloween weekend brings four days of anime, gaming, cosplay, and late-night madness taking over Huntington Place, and if you’ve been eyeing our partner hotels only to find them sold out, don’t worry. Detroit has more options than most people realize, and getting to Huntington Place from a hotel a few blocks or miles away is a lot easier than driving into downtown on a Friday afternoon of a convention on a holiday weekend.
Here’s how to lock in your stay and skip the parking struggle this year at Youmacon 2026.
Alternatives to the Youmacon Partner Hotels
You have four main options: downtown Detroit hotels within walking or People Mover distance, Midtown and New Center hotels connected by the free QLine streetcar, short-term rentals through Airbnb or Vrbo, and suburban chain hotels with a car or SMART FAST bus ride in. Our official Hotel Info page lists the discounted partner properties, but when those book up (and they always do), the alternatives below will get you to Huntington Place just as easily.

No Car, No Problem.
Driving into downtown Detroit on a convention weekend is not the move. Between Huntington Place, MGM Grand, Little Caesars Arena events, and everything else happening around the venue, parking is expensive, limited, and stressful. Detroit has four public transit options that can get you to the venue without a car, and two of them are completely free.
Detroit People Mover (Free, Right Inside Huntington Place)
The Detroit People Mover is an elevated train that loops around downtown Detroit. Rides are free thanks to sponsor Priority Waste, and the Times Square station drops you directly inside Huntington Place. If your hotel is anywhere on the 13-station loop, this is your fastest route to the show floor. Learn more at thepeoplemover.com.
QLine Streetcar Down Woodward Avenue
The QLine is a modern streetcar that runs 3.3 miles along Woodward Avenue, connecting downtown Detroit to Midtown, the North End, and New Center. Rides are free, cars come every 15 minutes, and the southern terminal at Congress Street connects directly with the People Mover. If your hotel is on or near Woodward, the QLine gets you close enough that a short walk or a quick People Mover transfer finishes the trip. Full route map at qlinedetroit.com.
SMART FAST Buses from the Suburbs and DTW Airport
SMART FAST buses run limited-stop express routes along three of Metro Detroit’s main corridors: Michigan Avenue, Woodward, and Gratiot. Every ride is $2, and the Michigan Avenue route starts at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, which means you can get from DTW to downtown for the cost of a soda. If your hotel is out along one of those corridors, FAST is often faster than driving in during peak convention traffic.
DDOT City Buses Across Detroit
The Detroit Department of Transportation runs standard city bus routes throughout Detroit. If you’re staying somewhere without QLine or People Mover access, a DDOT bus is likely your ride into downtown. Plan trips through the Transit app or at detroitmi.gov.
From Tsuno: “One app for all of it. Download Transit for bus times, streetcar times, and People Mover times all in one place.”

Downtown Detroit Hotels Near Huntington Place
Mid-scale downtown properties within walking distance or one People Mover stop from the venue. Book directly with the hotel or through a booking site:
- Hilton Garden Inn Detroit Downtown. Standard chain reliability with an indoor pool and fitness center. Short walk to the venue.
- Courtyard by Marriott Detroit Downtown. Marriott’s mid-scale option in the downtown core, walking distance to Huntington Place.
- Hotel Houze Detroit Downtown. Modern rooms, 24-hour gym, and a downtown location that keeps you in the mix.
- ROOST Detroit. Extended-stay apartment-style rooms inside the historic Book Tower. Kitchenettes come standard, which cuts food costs over four days.
- Sonder Gabriel Richard Apartments. Apartment-style suites with full kitchens. Works well for groups splitting a room.
Any of these get you inside Huntington Place in under fifteen minutes on foot or via People Mover.
Midtown and New Center Hotels on the QLine
If downtown is fully booked, look up Woodward Avenue toward Midtown and New Center. The QLine runs the whole corridor for free, and hotels in these neighborhoods usually price lower than downtown. Search hotel booking sites for chain properties (Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Best Western) in the 48201 and 48202 zip codes for the strongest QLine access.
Not only are these less expensive than staying downtown, but overnight parking is free. If you do decide to drive to Youmacon from your hotel, some lots connected to the convention center carry a daily rate as low as $25.
Airbnb and Vrbo for Youmacon Weekend
Short-term rentals are one of the strongest options for Youmacon groups. A three or four-bedroom apartment or house often works out cheaper per person than three or four hotel rooms, and you get a kitchen, laundry, and space to keep costumes organized.
A few things to check before you book:
- Location matters more than photos. Focus on properties in downtown Detroit, Corktown, Midtown, Rivertown, or along the Woodward corridor for the easiest venue access.
- Read the fine print on parking. Many downtown rentals do not include parking, and street parking during convention weekend can be tricky.
- Check cleaning fees and taxes. Nightly rates can look cheap until you get to checkout. Compare total cost, not headline price.
- Cancellation policies. Some hosts are strict. Know what you’re locked into.
- Read recent reviews only. What did the last month look like, not a review from four years ago.
- If you’re bringing bulky cosplay, ask about elevator access. A four-story walk-up is a bad idea in armor.
Search on Airbnb or Vrbo directly, filtering by dates and guest count.
Downtown Detroit Alternative: Metro Detroit Suburbs
When the downtown lodging pool runs dry, the metro area still has budget-friendly options. Neighborhoods to search:
- Ferndale and Royal Oak to the north (roughly 20 to 30 minutes from downtown by car)
- Dearborn to the west along Michigan Avenue (SMART FAST Michigan Ave bus available)
- Southfield for mid-scale chain properties along the I-696 corridor
Suburban options usually mean driving in or catching a SMART FAST bus, so factor parking in at both ends. Look for chain hotels along the main corridors: Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Best Western, Comfort Inn, and Baymont all have properties in these areas.

For Drivers: Where to Park Near Huntington Place
If you do bring a car, you have options. The Municipal Parking Department map shows official city lots and rates. Parking.com covers the private garages around Huntington Place, the Renaissance Center, and Greektown. Rates run higher during major event weekends, so book ahead where you can and expect to pay a premium day-of.
